Advice on What to Wear on a Plane

Cheap airplane tickets or cheap vacation packages are a great start to a trip. However, flying can be made more enjoyable by wearing the appropriate clothes.

The following is clothing that is recommended and not recommended to be worn on flights:

Avoid tight clothing; instead wear natural, breathable fabrics. Tight clothes can restrict blood flow and contribute to deep vein thrombosis.

Do not wear high heels. Do wear comfortable shoes. High heels are restrictive and could well pose an impediment in the event you need to make a quick exit in case of emergency. Slip-on shoes are ideal for passing through security.

Do not wear perfume or cologne. Make certain that your clothes have been freshly laundered. Odors are magnified on planes where passengers are packed together in close quarters and stale air is recycled throughout the cabin. The ideal seatmate is someone who does not exude any odor.

Avoid wearing potentially offensive clothing to ensure a more tranquil travel experience. Do not wear tee shirts that display curse words or controversial statements and anything that tends to raise eyebrows in public. Remember airlines have the right to deny boarding to anyone wearing lewd, obscene or patently offensive clothing.

Do not wear warm weather clothes. Instead wear layered clothes. Temperatures vary widely on planes based on whether a plane is held up at its departure gate or on a runway. Often while in the air, planes tend to become quite cool. A side benefit to wearing layers is the more clothes you tie around your waist or throw over your shoulder, the fewer clothes need to be squeezed into your suitcase.
