Advice on Selecting Plane Seats

Experienced frequent fliers are looking for more than just cheap fares, be they cheap airplane tickets or cheap vacation packages. They know that where they are seated on a plane can make a difference in the comfort of their trip.

If you are looking for a quieter ride, in seats with more space, and want to know which seats are worth paying an additional fee, you should consider:

A smoother ride is usually found in the towards the front of a cabin where the plane is more stable. Up front you will not have to deal with disruptions that come being close to bathrooms, the galley, or the engines. Nervous fliers will be pleased to hear that statistically you have a better chance of surviving a plane crash in the front.

Be aware though that if you have a seat in the first row you may be unable to stretch your legs because of the wall dividing coach and first class.

Some frequent fliers prefer emergency exit rows because of the extra room to stretch your legs, even though the trip is noisier. If your plane has two emergency exit rows back to back, such as the popular Boeing 737, the first row of exit seats will not fully recline. Try to get seats in the second exit row.

Paying an additional fee for a premium coach seat does not always mean you will have more leg room. Premium seats advantages vary by airline. One consistent advantage though is usually holders of premium seats are given priority boarding.

United and JetBlue provide the most incentive to pay for premium seats by providing extra legroom and priority boarding incentives.

Keep in mind that you should always select your seat when you purchase your airline tickets. Desirable seats, especially ones that do not cost more, go quickly.
